Paola, Kansas History

Paola, seat of Miami County. 1856 Paola was the center of 'Bloody Kansas' border wars. 1860 The first oil well West of the Mississippi was discovered at Paola. 1882 Well near Paola produces natural gas in great quantities. 1949 Paola was the first city in Kansas to authorize an industrial promotion levy.
